  • You need: Edit access to the dashboard

Steps

1
In Edit layout, press Add widget, choose Line chart, Bar chart or Donut chart, and press Continue. You can switch it later in Chart type (Chart types and when to use each one).
2
Choose the unit, the Measure, the field and the Date field.
3
In Group by, choose a select field or the owner, or a date field.
A date field needs Group dates by: Day, Week, Month, Quarter or Year.
4
Optional: pick a second field in Split by (optional), and turn on Stack series or Running total.
5
Set Groups to show, press Continue, then press Add widget.

How it works

Option
What it does
Group by (required)
The main axis: a field’s options, the owner, or time
Split by
Splits each column by a second field (for example, month × source)
Groups to show
The N biggest categories; the rest are combined into “Other”. From 1 up to the group limit (50 by default)
Show empty groups
Shows all the field’s options in their saved order, even if they’re zero
Stack series
Stacks the series on top of each other
Running total
A running total along the axis; for Count and Sum only
Widget filters
Narrow down the records

The time axis

Days, weeks and months follow your workspace’s time zone and week start. Every period in the range shows, in order; an empty period is zero for Count and Sum, and a gap for Average and the others. Groups to show and “Other” don’t apply to time. The axis shows up to 366 periods by default and keeps the most recent ones.

Special values

“(No value)” means records where the field is empty. “(Unassigned)” means records with no owner, or whose owner no longer exists. “(Removed option)” means an option deleted from the field. An archived option shows with its name and “(Archived)”.

In a multi-select field, the columns may add up to more than the number of records, because a record is counted once for each option.

Charts don’t compare with the previous period. To compare, use Show a KPI: one number with a comparison and a sparkline.

What to do

You chose Average with a running total.
Change the measure, or turn off the running total.
“That’s more than this workspace allows.”
Groups to show is bigger than the group limit.
Lower it.
A large “Other” category
Too many categories.

The time axis is missing its start
The date range is longer than the period limit.
Shorten the range, or choose a bigger time unit.

A real example

Namaa Academy
The situation

She wants to know which source brings the most leads each week.

What they did
  1. Bar chart: Count, grouped by “Created” weekly, split by “Source”, stacked.
  2. Groups to show = 5 for sources.
The result

It turned out Instagram leads during campaign weeks, so the budget moved to it.

A made-up company, to show the idea. The numbers are rounded.

Good to know

Groups to show goes up to the workspace’s group limit (50 by default, up to 200).
Up to 366 time periods by default (12–1,000).
Running totals work with Count and Sum only.
