Send a record’s data to another app (webhook)

The Send to another app step sends the record’s data, or a body you design, to an outside app’s URL, digitally signed, and retries on temporary failures.

Steps

1
Press Add a step and choose Send to another app.
2
Under Address, paste the outside app’s URL.
3
Next to the address, choose the method: POST, PUT or PATCH.
4
Optional: under Headers, press Add a header.
5
Under What to send, choose The whole record or My own text.
A custom body is a JSON template with variables such as {{name}}.
6
Try it with a Practice run: it shows what would be sent, without calling the app.

How it works

Internal and private URLs are refused. The action accepts only public addresses on the internet.

Every request carries a signature made with the automation’s own secret. The secret isn’t shown in Corteksa.

Sending is “at least once”: after a timeout or a temporary error, it’s resent with the same body and the same idempotency key, so the app ignores the duplicate.

The new record data format (version 2) sends options by their names and files as signed links. Old steps stay on version 1 until you change them.

The run log keeps only the domain name, not the full URL.

Signature and header details for developers are in Subscribe to Webhooks to receive record changes.

If something goes wrong

What you see

What to do
“… can’t be called — it isn’t a public http or https address.”
The URL is internal or local.
Use a public URL.

The app refused the request, or it’s down.
“Header not allowed”
A reserved header.
Delete it.

A real example

Shield Security Co.
The situation

The accounting system needs every signed contract.

What they did
  1. A field changes: the stage changes to “Signed”.
  2. Send to another app with a custom body: the contract number, the value and the client.
The result

The invoice shows up in accounting without anyone typing it in.

A made-up company, to show the idea. The numbers are rounded.

Good to know

The response timeout is 10 seconds.
Up to 20 headers, and each header’s value up to 2,048 characters.
The first 500 bytes of the app’s response are kept.
Some headers are reserved and can’t be set, such as Host and Content-Length.
