Add, remove and promote group members

If the session’s number is an admin of the group, you can add and remove members from Cortex Chat, promote them to admins, or make them regular members again.

Groups turned on, your number as a group admin or owner
  • You need: The Update permission on the WhatsApp Groups row, and your number is an admin of the group
  • Groups are turned on for the number.
  • The session’s number is an admin or the owner of the group.

Steps

1
Open the group in Cortex Chat, then open Group info.
2
To add members: press Add members, add their numbers with the country code, then press the add button at the bottom.
The new members show, and a “joined” notice shows in the chat.
3
To remove a member: open the member’s menu and choose Remove from group.
4
To promote a member to admin, or make them a regular member again: choose Make admin or Remove admin from the member’s menu.
5
To refresh the list by hand: press Sync in Group info.

How it works

The group’s details show the number of members, whether your number is an admin, and each member’s role: Owner or Admin, with no badge for a regular member. A member who left stays on record, with the date they left.

After WhatsApp accepts a change, the group updates for everyone who opens it. The same update arrives when a member changes something from their phone.

Corteksa learns members’ names from their messages. Members’ photos aren’t fetched, so their first letter shows instead.

If something goes wrong

What you see
Why
What to do
“This WhatsApp number isn’t a group admin”
The session’s number is a regular member.
Ask a group admin to promote the session’s number.
“One of the members could not be found”
The member left, or the number is wrong.
Refresh the list with sync, then try again.
“This WhatsApp number is no longer in this group”
The number was removed from the group.
The group is now read-only.
“Connect the WhatsApp number and try again”
The number is disconnected.

A real example

Shield Security Co.
The situation

A new technician joined a large client’s maintenance team, and he needs to be added to the client’s group.

What they did
  1. The supervisor opened the group in Cortex Chat and added the technician’s number.
  2. He promoted the team lead to admin, so the lead can add people from his own phone.
The result

The technician was added without anyone needing the company phone.

A made-up company, to show the idea. The numbers are rounded.

Good to know

Up to 256 numbers in one request.
A group holds up to 1,024 members.
Every action needs the session’s number to be an admin.
Join requests that need admin approval, and the “who can add members” setting, aren’t available from Corteksa.
